City Walls

Earlier this year our friends Billie and Elliot started a project for the City of Sydney Council - City Walls Sydney for Art and About. They invited American artist Momo to create and install a major piece in the heart of the city. The artist was given creative freedom over walls, seats and the floor surfaces.

How great is it?! One of my favourite art projects I’ve seen this year. Sadly, it was just a temporary installation. I look forward to seeing and experiencing future City Wall projects!

Skyspace by James Turrell

If you're ever in Canberra, be sure to check out James Turrell's permanent installation 'Skyspace' at the National Gallery of Australia. It's apparently best to see it sunrise or sunset, as you see the space change, as the light moves. We were there in the middle of the day, and it was still beautiful.

sculpture by the sea II

some more sculptures from this year's sculpture by the sea.
the top two images are of the sculpture titled mengenang (memory) by artist Cave Urban...
the sound this sculpture made was beautiful and it changed according to the wind.
if you're interested click here to watch a video by the artist.

sculpture by the sea

sculpture by the sea happens each year for two weeks on the coastal walk between bondi and tamarama beaches. it's been a long time
since we've been able to visit (living in london for the past five years, meant we couldn't get there).

the husband and i got to go one wednesday afternoon. there were still lots of people visiting, but not the same crowds you get on the
weekend. after we'd seen all the sculptures we continued walking to bronte beach, sat and watched the surf. we then had an early
dinner of fish and chips. such a nice afternoon.

some more photos of other sculptures in posts to come.

i liked the polka dot shadows of the above sculpture by artsist Inava Kuzmanouska and Rachel Cooper.

biennale of sydney: details

some more shots taken on cockatoo island and the biennale of sydney. i must say, i wasn't blown away by the biennale this year..
there were some works that i loved, but i've enjoyed past biennales a lot more. still it's such a treat to visit cockatoo island.

sydney readers - did you visit the biennale this year, what did you think?

p.s Astrid asked me to participate in her why do you shoot film series, click here to take a look. thanks Astrid!

i wish these had sound

the other weekend polo and i took the ferry to cockatoo island to visit the biennale of sydney. above are photos of an installation by
artist Tiffany Singh, Knock On The Sky Listen To The Sound, made of bamboo wind chimes and mixed media.

we were lucky enough to experience the installation on our known, no one else was around. it was a windy day, so the sound was
beautiful. i wish these images had sound!

art / colour

i took these photos of works on show at the museum of contemporary art, sydney. i stupidly forgot to make a record of the artist's
names. forgive me, but they were to bright, colourful and fun not to share.
